Sugar isn’t bad! All the cells in your body use sugar as an energy source. You need it to live. When you eat your everyday foods, such as rice, bread, pasta, and vegetables, your digestive system will break down these complex carbohydrates into simple sugars, which every single cell in your body requires as a source of energy. However, empty calories can cause your body harm. Empty calories are calories that give you only energy with no nutritional benefit. For example, a can of soda contains empty calories, as soda gives you many calories, but no nutritional benefit. Excessive calories can lead to weight gain, which can lead to increased cancer risk over time. 
糖並不是壞東西!我們體內的所有細胞都使用糖作為一種能量來源。我們需要糖來維持生命!當我們吃下日常飲食,如:米飯、麵包、麵食或蔬菜,我們的消化系統會將這些複雜的碳水化合物分解成單糖,我們體內的每一個細胞都需要它作為能量來源。 然而,「空熱量」食物就會對我們的身體造成傷害。空熱量也是熱量,卻只會帶給我們沒有營養幫助的能量。例如:一罐汽水裡就含有空熱量,因為汽水只會帶給我們很多熱量,卻沒有營養價值。過多的熱量會導致體重增加,隨著時間的過去,就會增加罹患癌症的風險。

People with diabetes don’t need to eat special foods. A healthy diet for a diabetic is generally the same as healthy eating for anyone—a diet low in saturated fat, moderate in salt and sugar, and rich in vegetables! Sweets are no more “off limits” to people with diabetes than they are to people without diabetes. The key is to have very small portions, and save it only for special occasions, just like anyone else with a healthy diet. 
糖尿病患者不需要吃什麼特殊食物。對糖尿病患者來說健康的飲食往往與任何人的健康飲食沒什麼不同,不外乎低飽和脂肪、適量的鹽和糖,以及很多很多的各類蔬菜!含有甜味的食物對糖尿病患者和沒有糖尿病的人來說都不是「禁忌食物」。關鍵是只攝取非常少許的分量,並且在特殊場合時才食用,健康均衡的飲食對任何人來說都是重要的。
